John grew up in Vail and graduated from the Vail Mountain School in 1984. He attended Hamilton College in Upstate New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

John then moved to Osaka, Japan to teach corporate executives English. After two years of instructing all levels of Japanese employees, from new trainees to the presidents and CEOs of many well known companies, John traveled around the world for a year and relocated in San Francisco to begin a career in international business.

After working with a large Japanese firm in the international logistics and customs brokerage arena for five years, John and his new wife Danie moved to Denver as Sales Manager for the Denver branch of John's company.

Always an entrepreneur at heart, John started a new business in 1995 representing a British firm leading the world in the field of polymeric repair products and techniques. Over the course of eight years, John sold and directed projects in most of the power plants in Colorado, numerous dams, waste water plants, air force bases, office buildings and manufacturing companies. (He can tell you some fascinating stories on the chairlift!)

Two young children, an inherent love of the mountains and several near fatal accidents finally convinced John of the logic behind moving back to Vail to join Slifer, Smith and Frampton Real Estate and follow the impressive footsteps of his mother, Carroll Tyler (see bio under list of brokers.)

John had the incredible fortune to accept a position as assistant to Rick Pirog (see bio under list of brokers) in June of 2004. Under Rick's tutelage, John earned his broker's license in November of 2004, his GRI certification in 2006 and has assisted Rick with over $350 million in residential transactions including East West Partner's exclusive residential development in Beaver Creek, The Custom Homes on Village Walk. John has also worked with East West Partners marketing the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa in Avon, Wintergreen Homes with their South Fork Meadows development, and Summit Habitats on The Pointe at Edwards, another high-end gated residential community.

Team Pirog and Tyler offer more than 34 years of experience in the Vail Valley real estate market. They represent owners of everything from vacant home sites to entire residential developments.
