As the days get longer and the sunshine gets warmer in Colorado, it's time to gear up for some spring skiing fun. So, if you're looking to squeeze every last drop of snowy goodness out of the season and ski some fresh corn, Summit County is the place for you.

But before you hit the slopes, let's make sure you're armed with the essential tips to make the most of your trip to the high country.

Gear for Spring Skiing

We're not just closer to the clouds up here in the high country; we're practically neighbors with the sun at 8,150 feet! With that much solar affection, there is a fine line between a sun-kissed glow and a sunburned red. Slather on that sunscreen!

Layer Up

Sure, there's still snow underfoot, but don't be fooled – spring sunshine will surprise you. It's a bit of a weather rollercoaster. You might start the day bundled up, but by midday, you might wish you were in a t-shirt. Bring layers!

Goggles? Check. Sunglasses? Double-check. Sun reflecting off the snow can be especially powerful. Without protection, you could face serious health consequences such as snow blindness. Make sure to protect your eyes and get those shades on.

Sun Soaking Patios

After a long winter, spring is our favorite time to soak up some afternoon sun on a patio and enjoy a beverage. Here are some of our favorite patios in the county:

Garfinkel's in Lionshead:
Just off the slopes, enjoy a sunny afternoon on the outdoor picnic tables and an ice-cold craft brew on tap.

Los Amigos
 in Vail Village:
Nothing is better than a fresh margarita and house made chips and salsa after a long day on the hill. Enjoy their patio, close to the base of Gondola One.

Ein Prosit in Avon:
Come down from Beaver Creek to bask in the sunshine on the patio of Ein Prosit - an authentic biergarten serving fine beers and sausages.

Agave in Avon:

Come for the happy hour drinks and stay for the live music! See the full schedule of evening shows and the extensive tequila menu on their site.

Etown in Edwards:
The large patio conveniently located in Riverwalk is an excellent place to end your day. Hang out outside and indulge in delicious post-ski classics like wings, sandwiches, and more.

With sunscreen on your skin, layers ready, and a great place to spend the afternoon, you're all set to harvest some turns and soak in those springtime vibes. See you on the mountain!
